CLOVERFIELD!
Okay, Cloverfield time. This movie was seriously so kick ass. I’m not going to do anything to reveal the monster, because honestly, you have to see this movie. I don’t even think I could describe it if I wanted to. It has tentacles, I think. I don’t know, just see it. For those of you nay-sayers, the way this was filmed was so brilliant. Yeah, people say it’s like...

Glös - Harmonium
Keeley Davis has a unique voice.  I really liked him in Engine Down, and now that he joined Sparta it got me really excited.  Well, Glös brings back the feeling that Engine Down did so well.  The music pretty much a smooth mix between the two aforementioned bands.     The album features a lot of fantastic harmonies and lyrics, which Keeley does so well.  The guitars are also full of life.  I’m...

Jackie Carol - Check Check
Casket Lottery.  Check.  Small Brown Bike.  Check.  Able Baker Fox.  Check.  Jackie Carol.  Check Check.  Nathan Ellis has another band that released an album this past year.  Doesn’t sound much like Able Baker Fox though.  I would say that Jackie Carol sounds like The Casket Lottery but a lot poppier, which is definately a good thing.     The first song “No Fiction” has a...

Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Lupe Fiasco is getting a lot of hype these days.  And well, he is definately one of my favorite rappers.  I like him so much more than Kanye West.  The Cool is Lupe’s followup to Food & Liquor.     The first single on this album is titled “Superstar” and it is definately a catchy track.  This CD showcases Lupe Fiasco’s flow abilities.  He seems to be able to rhyme...

The Good Life - Help Wanted Nights
Tim Kasher is definately one of my idols.  That includes The Good Life.  There has always been a great debate on whether Cursive or The Good Life is better.  That is a debate with no answer really, because they are such different bands.  Now as Cursive released a new this past August, The Good Life followed with a Help Wanted Nights about a year after.     The Good Life had a hefty load on...

1997 - ...A Better View Of The Rising Moon
Obviously, I’m such a sucker for local bands.  I’ve seen 1997 play numerous tiny VFW shows and I loved them way before they got signed.  I have played a few shows with them myself (with my old band).  I called that they would get signed long ago, and so of course, I was on edge to hear a well-produced full-length of theirs off of… ugh, Victory Records.  But hey, at least...

Thrice - The Alchemy Index: Volume 1 & 2
I thought the idea of Thrice making a 4-disc concept album on earth, wind, water and fire was such a funny idea.  The fact that they’re only releasing them two at a time makes it a little better, I guess. Volume I:  Fire     Well, in one sense they succeeded, because I definately feel like more intense than fire.  Of course, the fire album features many hardcore elements and lots of...

Moving Mountains - Pneuma
2007 had some very decent releases, and in my opinion, the absolute best album to come out of 2007 was Moving Mountains’ Pneuma. This album was self-released, because they are still unsigned (which is unbelievable). This band is definately for fans of Explosions In The Sky and the Appleseed Cast. Pneuma takes the ambient sounds of Explosions In The Sky and throws in very similar...

Able Baker Fox - Voices
Small Brown Bike and The Casket Lottery are two of the most amazing bands I have heard.  Both have such a great heavy sound and awesome vocals.  In fact, when they did a split together I thought it was so fantastic.  Definately my favorite split of all time.  This brings me to Able Baker Fox.  Their lineup consists of, in a nutshell, that split lineup.  Three members of Small Brown Bike and...

Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear
Polar Bear Club is such a refreshing band to punk music.  They combine a lot of different elements to their sound that really pulls you in.  Their debut EP was titled The Redder The Better and now they are releasing their first full-length entitled Sometimes Things Just Disappear.  Their previous EP received an incredible amount of great feedback from just about everywhere.  Now they are...
